Process

Each project usually follows a number of steps. Depending on the size of the project, certain phases will not be as intensive, but this gives you a good idea of the work involved, whether it’s building a custom home or just re-arranging a single room.

1- Phase 1 – Discovery

This is where we gather all the information necessary, analyze it and lay the groundwork for the design process. What are your needs and objectives? How is the space going to be used? What are your preferences – colour, image and style? We will also define budget and time line parameters. What we discover at this stage will become critical to the success of the project, big or small!

2- Phase 2 – Conceptual Design

This is the fun part of the process – we’ll brainstorm and explore preliminary ideas. We’ll come up with comps and layouts of rooms, furniture and accessories. Samples of colour, photographs and material samples will be presented for further exploration and discussion. From here, we will refine the design, and start working on pricing of each element.

3- Phase 3 – Design Development

With the ideas firmed up in Phase 2, we will fine tune them with greater detail. Mouldings, staircases, lighting and cabinetry are designed. Plans are prepared. Furniture and furnishing recommendations are presented, as are materials, fabrics and paint colours. The budget is presented, finalized and approved.

4- Phase 4 – Detailed Specifications

Detailed drawings and specifications are prepared, if the project warrants them, based on the final design. These are the roadmap for final implementation. They outline the technical specs needed to build what has been designed,

5- Phase 5 – Project Coordination and Implementation

This is where it all comes together. Linda will oversee the contractor and the various trades people working on the project, to ensure that everything is executed according to plan, and with the quality workmanship required. No cutting corners! No avoiding the difficult conversations!
While doing this, we’ll source out the right furniture, accessories, window coverings, flooring, lighting, fixtures, etc. And once the construction is complete, we’ll also oversee the proper installation and placement of all of these, and make sure everything is ready for “Home & Garden” magazine!
